Soludo: Free Anambra Three!

A dog drawn to death does not perceive the pong of potent probiotics.
(“Nkịta ọnwụ na-egbu anaghị anụ ishi ogiri”).

As Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo struggles with his reelection campaign, increasing numbers have no sympathy. One put it bluntly, as if Peter Obi were a son of the gods: “He messed with Okwute,” referring to his infamous part-one letter in 2023. Soludo is struggling and making more unforced errors as in the entanglement with Uche Ekwunife (APC deputy-governor candidate) and the alleged setup of fake creditors to embarrass APC gubernatorial candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu.

Soludo is snatching straws in a desperate dash to defeat a weak field. In a standard season, Soludo could crush all the contestants comfortably. A saving grace, besides the power of incumbency, may be that Anambra folks are not yet totally fed up with APGA. As a legacy of the great Ikemba Nnewi, many may swallow hard and save the ghost … before Soludo collapses APGA into any party that may tempt him with the VP slot in 2031.

For now, Soludo’s problem may be spiritual. His crusade against Ọdịnanị, the resurging Igbo traditional religion, is surprising. He declared unconstitutionally that Anambra is a Christian state. He later backtracked but stayed on the course by arresting three top-trending cowboys of concocted charms and touting them to try Houdini escape! During his hypercritical hypes, many thought that the so-called “native doctors” were rabid kidnappers and ritual killers. So far, close but no cigars!

The continued incarceration of these charm merchants is a repulsive religious persecution masquerading as crimefighting. They never hid their crafts and services. They were on social media platforms profiting from content creation, promoting their crafts, and preaching the virtues of work to complement faith in charms. Soludo never hid his hatred for Igbo traditional spirituality and its assumed-potent products while, even as a Catholic, he embraces phony Pentecostalism and its confirmed-fake miracles.

The case of “Anambra Three” is sub judice, but Soludo has the power to enter a nolle prosequi. He got it wrong with their arrests; he should let them go without prejudice. Thus, he may stop more shameful scandals from soiling Anambra 2025. He has made his point, whatever that is. He has nothing more to gain and a lot to lose, especially if his problems are from provoking the good gods. Hey, you never know!
